Wyatt Dowling Supports New Initiative for Veterans

Veterans have given so much. Wyatt Dowling is giving back by supporting a new initiative for veterans, launched by Peter Martin, an executive member of the Transcona Legion and Veterans Outreach Program.

Martin wants to honour veterans through a program in which local businesses offer discounts or other tangible forms of appreciation to veterans. Businesses show their participation with a decal.

We are proud to be taking part. Wyatt Dowling has made an ongoing commitment to support the costs of printing the decals. All our offices in Winnipeg will be displaying the decals, which show a poppy and say, “Thank you for your service.”

The decals are a visible expression of support to veterans and their families in appreciation of all their sacrifices.

Martin has made it point to research what veterans in Canada and the U.S. receive in terms of visible forms of appreciation from various businesses.

“I was amazed to see those businesses across Canada and even more so in the United States, provide discounts and incentives to veterans. What surprised me was the lack of discounts offered to our Manitoba veterans living in Winnipeg and more specifically Transcona,” Martin says.

Goal is to have as many businesses as possible participate

To address this, Martin and Legion executive member, Brett Enns, have initiated a project to have Transcona and area businesses to offer discounts to veterans.

They hope the project will set an example and spread throughout Winnipeg and beyond.

Martin notes: “Whatever type of discount, or other form of appreciation they decide, will certainly be a nice gesture for those who served our country. We understand that not all types of businesses are able to offer discounts.”

Martin is also encouraging supporting businesses to include their participation on their website and on social media to show they appreciate the service and sacrifice of veterans and their families.
